The Intuitive Eating Workbook for Teens A NonDiet Body Positive Approach to Building a Healthy Relationship with Food 9781684031443 Medicine Health Science Books Reviews
- This book is not only for teens, the principles of Intuitive Eating can help whole families unlearn all of the awful diet-culture programming that is so pervasive in our media and society (even pediatricians can have body and weight biases which can be harmful to kids), and is so incredibly damaging to physical and mental health. I have been an intuitive eater for about 3 years, and as a mental health professional in training, I have long awaited a book for teenagers. Resch's Intuitive Eating Workbook for Teens provides evidence-based information in an easy to understand (without talking down) format to help teens find a peaceful relationship with food, eating, and their bodies no matter what their size or shape.
- I've been reading and very much enjoying Intuitive Eating by Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch so when my teen daughter asked me if she could read it too I poked around to find out if there is one for teens, and sure enough, Elyse Resch is publishing one in May of 2019.
I read it today and it is excellent. The introduction is enormously empathetic and encouraging without ever being patronizing. It also spells out the book's content and goals in a way that is highly approachable.
I found the personal anecdotes to be relatable and credible and I believe teens will as well.
The questionnaire in Chapter One really engaged me as a reader and motivated me to take this journey with the author. I felt like Elyse Resch was in my head, understood me, and was cheering me on.
I was particularly interested in the simple but profound description of the deprivation/rebellion cycle that long-term dieters and frustrated newbies will recognize instantly. You feel, as you read, like someone really "gets you".
The 10 Principles are common-sense, attainable goals clearly identified and labeled as a journey and not an end game. All of the above is sprinkled with compassion, encouragement, credibility and professionalism.
I cannot wait to buy this for my daughter in May. This is such a wise approach to good health and happiness!
Thank you to Elyse Resch, New Harbinger Publications, Inc., and NetGalley for giving me this digital ARC in exchange for an honest review! - The original Intuitive Eating book was life changing and transformative for me. I was thrilled to hear that one of the authors released a work book for teens- I wish I had been able to access a resource like this as a teenager. This book teaches teenagers how to be in tune and in touch with their own bodies- and how to rely on their own hunger signals and cues to know how to eat. It helps teenagers to find some sanity around food in a world that is obsessed with things like "clean eating" and the latest fad diets. It is a powerful antidote to societies emphasis on "perfect diets and perfect bodies" and I believe this book will help teenagers immensely.
- Thank you so much for writing this! Filled with accessible worksheets and anecdotes to help illustrate the points, this is a treasure trove of skills-building exercises for any teen wanting to take a look at their relationship with food. I would have loved this when I was in high school (or college, for that matter) as a way to stop trying new "diets" and "lifestyle changes" and just get back to what we were all mean to do Intuitive Eating! The book takes the reader through the 10 Principles of Intuitive Eating in a way that is easy to understand without being condescending. The readings and worksheets are quick yet insight-building -- so important when you have a ton of homework to do along with a bunch of extracurricular activities. I would highly recommend this book to the folks I work with and anyone who is looking to establish a great relationship with food, body, and physical activity.

- Where was this book when I was a teen?!? Straight to the point and thoughtful exercises really help readers connect with their own TRUTH! After all, isn’t that what intuitive eating is about? Getting in touch with ourselves? Non preachy, not too much reading, and not too advice-y. As a professional, I love this book as it has inspired how I work with my clients. As a former teen, I wish I had such a resource. I think it would have prevented years of suffering around food and body image. Another incredible resource by Elyse Resch! I recommend this workbook in conjunction with the book Intuitive Eating for max benefit!
- Truth be told, I only meant to skim this book to assess whether it would be a good one to recommend to my teenage patients. As an adolescent medicine provider, I am a believer in the intuitive eating approach to a healthy relationship with food and discuss this philosophy often with my patients. But to my surprise, I ended up reading every page, fascinated with the compelling explanations and exercises provided. I will be recommending this book to everyone!
- Love love love! Im a dietitian working to help clients heal their relationship with food. This workbook is an awesome addition to my practice, allowing me to use the many activities with my teen clients. This really allows us to start and continue the conversation about having a normal and relaxed relationship with food. It explores all aspects of eating and body image, which is amazing for teens. I've even used it with my young adult clients. Thank you for making such a wonderful resource.
